Hollandia Produce LLC has received superfood certification for some of its products.

Living produce company achieves antioxidant certificationThe Carpinteria, Calif.-based Hollandia’s Live Gourmet brand of living upland cress and Grower Pete’s Organic brand of living watercress have been certified as antioxidant-rich “superfoods” after a laboratory test of their antioxidants levels, according to a news release.

Bags of the products now display the antioxidant superfood certification label from SCS Global Services, according to the release.

“There are a lot of food products in the marketplace that claim to be rich in antioxidants but very few have any data to back it up,” Vincent Choate, Hollandia’s director of marketing, said in the release. “This certification lets our customers know the levels of healthful antioxidants they are getting in every bag and promotes transparency while educating consumers and will help our products stand out.”

The laboratory testing confirmed the products contain high quantities of lutein, an antioxidant known to fight cancer-causing free radical compounds, according to the release.

Lutein is also found in leafy greens including spinach and kale and supports eye health and vision, according to the release.
