Courtesy California Giant Berry FarmsCalifornia Giant Berry Farms employees have started receiving weekly fresh produce deliveries at the office from Watsonville Coast Produce.

Staff at Watsonville-based California Giant take the fruits and vegetables home to share with family members.

Watsonville Coast Produce assembles boxes of fresh produce from its local grower suppliers and customizes them for deliveries. Each contains seasonal items, recipe ideas and stories about the growers.

Through the arrangement, California Giant employees can make weekly requests and receive discounts.

“This is a great way for us to enjoy locally grown items and share the weekly experience with our co-workers,” Cindy Jewell, director of marketing, said in a news release. “We each look forward to getting that box on a weekly basis and share new recipes we develop with items that we otherwise might not purchase at the store.”

It’s part of a long-term push for a healthy lifestyle at California Giant that began with eliminating junk food in the kitchen. Owners later designated an area for an office gym, offering commercial exercise equipment and a personal trainer.
