Avocado importers sponsor sweepstakes with nutritionist, chef

The Mexican Hass Avocado Importers Association enlisted a registered dietician and a chef to provide tips for the Pantry Pointers and Prep With Cheryl and Suvir Sweepstakes.

Cheryl Forberg, nutritionist of NBC’s “Biggest Loser” and Suvir Saran, contestant on Bravo’s “Top Chef Masters” (season 3) gave nutrition and culinary tips for the sweepstakes, according to a news release.

Chef Suvir Saran (left) and RD Cheryl Forberg cooked and shared tips with the winner of the Pantry Pointers and Prep with Cheryl and Suvir Sweepstakes. Participants were able to enter the sweepstakes Feb. 17 through May 17 on the Amazing Avocado Facebook page or register at any of the 12 “Taste the WOW!” mobile tour stops in the country.

The winner of the sweepstakes Laurie Lichtenstein from Benbrook, Texas, was awarded a private nutrition consultation, cooking lesson and food shopping instruction in her home with Forberg and Saran, according to the release.

MHAIA is a partner with MyPlate and Forberg used the SuperTracker on the MyPlate site to show Lichtenstein how to eat healthier.

Both Forberg and Saran offered advice to everyone on cooking tips and avocados. Forberg suggested people can change up what they already know how to cook.

“Start with something you make well and make small changes to slightly alter the texture, color, or main ingredient,” said Forberg in the release. “For example, instead of pasta with a cream sauce, mix in a very ripe avocado and then season with salt, pepper and a dash of Parmesan cheese.”
