MSNBC’s 'Morning Joe' duo to speak at United Fresh 2013

Promising to pack a punch, the lively co-hosts of MSNBC’s Morning Joe are slated to appear at United Fresh 2013.

Republican Joe Scarborough and Democrat Mika Brzezinski, the Morning Joe co-hosts since 2007, will provide commentary on the current political scene and implications for the fresh produce industry at the May 16 general session of the May 14-16 United Fresh Produce Association convention in San Diego, according to a news release.

Before coming to MSNBC, Scarborough served in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1994 to 2001, a Republican representing Florida’s First District.

“Joe Scarborough is an unabashed conservative pundit who never shies away from telling it as it is or giving advice to Republicans and Democrats alike,” Tom Stenzel, United Fresh president, said in the news release. “I’m confident that he and Mika will give our convention attendees in San Diego a refreshing break from relentless political polarization.”

Brzezinski’s journalism career began in 1990 with ABC, according to the release, before she joined CBS in 1997. Before joining MSNBC in January 2007, Brzezinski was an anchor of the CBS Evening News Weekend Edition and a CBS news correspondent, according to the release.

Whole Foods Market Co-CEO Walter Robb is scheuled to give the keynote speech.

The opening reception for the event will be on the USS Midway, and there will be a post-show Produce Marketing & Merchandising Conference for a closer looking at the connected consumer, according to the release.

The convention will be at the San Diego Convention Center.
