Maersk Line has launched a flagship import service from Asia to five locations in the U.S.

The company joined with Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway to provide nonstop sea-rail service to Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Memphis, Tenn., and northwest Ohio.

The collaboration will shorten transport time and create more reliable arrival times, according to a news release.

The company has tested the service since early February, according to Monica Kohn, general manager of market intelligence for Maersk Line.

She says three of the five lines are running.

The company expects the service to provide customers with a 95% on-time delivery, according to the release.

“We understand that our customers must be more efficient to compete. This means that they can’t afford to have high inventory safety stocks and supply chain disruptions that result in unnecessary costs,” Craig Mygatt, senior vice president of Inland Operations for Maersk Line, said in the release.
