Magazine features Dole food safety measures

DoleFood safety practices at Monterey, Calif.-based Dole Fresh Vegetables were the subject of the October cover story in Quality Assurance & Food Safety magazine.

Dole Fresh Vegetables vice president of technical services Thomas Mack and senior food safety manager Nye Hardy were interviewed. Mack is also chairman of the technical committee at the California Leafy Greens Marketing Agreement.

San Rafael, Calif.-based SafetyChain Software provided Dole with technology referred to by the magazine, including SafetyChain for Food and SafetyChain Mobile.

The technology enables food safety evaluations using iPhone and BlackBerry capable of:

 

  • checking off food safety factors, noting issues and adding comments or photos;
  • submitting field assessments, field approval or noncompliance;
  • managing noncompliance issues with alerts sent via email and notifications to applicable persons for timely corrective actions; and
  • offering a centralized database.
