Dole salads have earned a pair of honors in the American Package Design Award competition and from Parents magazine.
Courtesy DoleMonterey, Calif.-based Dole Fresh Vegetables’ line of organic salads is among the winners in Graphic Design USA’s packaging competition, which recognizes in-store graphics as well as packaging.
Dole introduced the organic salads last year and are starting nationwide distribution this year, according to a news release. They’re in a clear, resealable clamshell.
“This award validates our strategy of using innovative packaging technology in combination with a consumer-first mindset to reinvent the prepackaged salad category and create a meaningful one-on-one experience with our customers,” Chris Mayhew, vice president of marketing for Dole Fresh Vegetables, said in the release.
Separately, Dole’s chopped Asian blend salad was named one of the 25 Best Packaged Foods of 2014 by Parents magazine in its March issue.
“Our tiny testers ate kale when it was chopped up with bite-size pieces of cabbage, carrots and snap peas in this bagged salad,” the magazine said, referring to children who had tasted the salad. More than 75 children and parents tasted new products in Des Moines, Iowa, to determine the 25 winners.
The Asian blend was one of four Dole chopped salads introduced last fall. It combines kale with green and red cabbage, broccoli slaw, snap peas and carrots. Parents magazine featured it with 24 other new products as “family-friendly items that contain reasonable levels of fat and sodium, have no artificial colors or flavors, and save busy cooks time.”
