The National Mango Board plans to honor retailers dedicated to merchandising mangoes during its annual mango industry reception at the Produce Marketing Association’s Fresh Summit 2013 expo in New Orleans.
At the Oct. 19 event, the Orlando, Fla.-based board plans to reveal its Mango Retailer of the Year winner. The reception is from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
In its second year, the retailer award honors retailers that are strong and supportive partners to the industry and deliver strong mango promotion results, according to a news release.
The finalists are Keith Durham of Brookshire Grocery Co., Tyler, Texas; Tom Eynon of Giant Eagle Inc., Pittsburgh; Dick McKellogg of Lowes Foods, Winston-Salem, N.C.; and Michael Schutt of Raley’s Supermarkets, Sacramento, Calif.
The evening event is open to all mango industry members wanting to learn more about food safety and new opportunity areas, according to the release.
It brings members of all levels of the world’s mango supply chain together to connect and network.
Participants are scheduled to learn about safety efforts from Sergio Nieto-Montenegro of Food Safety Consulting & Training Solutions LLC.
Nieto-Montenegro plans to report on his findings from his industry survey as well as recommendations for mango farms and packinghouses in the top 6 importing countries and U.S. warehouses and distribution centers, according to the release.
The Fresh Produce Association of the Americas in Nogales, Ariz., is an event co-sponsor.
Scheduled for the Hilton New Orleans Riverside Hotel , reservations are not required.
