The National Mango Board, Orlando, Fla., said four of its promotions this year have put mangoes onto more menus, and a fifth promotion is planned for September.

Mango board working on year's fifth promoThe board had a February-to-May promotion with Tony Roma’s, Romacorp Inc., Dallas, in 40 of its locations, featuring seared citrus mahi mahi with fresh mango salsa. The promotion was backed by menu inserts, in-store posters and television commercials.

BJ’s Restaurant & Brewhouse, Huntington Beach, Calif., did a promotion in March and April. It promoted its thai salmon and fresh mango salsa on menu inserts in 104 locations.

The board also did a promotion with Guest Services Inc., Fairfax, Va., in June. It was at 30 locations, each serving more than 1,000 people a day. It featured nine fresh mango menu items from drinks to entrees, complete with in-store posters.

The board also partnered with Sodexo, Issy-les-Moulineaux, France, in July to promote grilled mahi mahi with tropical slaw and tropical mango rolls. Sodexo featured the items in 1,200 locations, and used more than 80,000 pounds of fresh mangos during the promotion.

The board said it is finalizing a promotion with Whitsons Culinary Group, Islandia, N.Y., for September. It will feature up to six mango menu items in 206 corporate and school locations.
