Kemp, who joined the company in 2011, had most recently been working for it as an independent business analyst. He was chief operating officer for a year and a half.
Kemp has lived in the St. Louis area for 11 years, and plans to focus on volunteer work there.
Before his work at Market Fresh Produce, he spent most of his career at Eden Prairie, Minn.-based Supervalu. He was Supervalu’s corporate director of produce for more than 10 years and later worked as Save-A-Lot’s vice president of fresh.
Kemp also served on the United Fresh Produce Association board for 10 years.
“Although he will be greatly missed, I am excited for Mike to be able to focus his time on things that are most important to him,” Steve Phipps, chief executive officer and owner of Market Fresh Produce, said in a news release.
