Sam Martin, chief executive officer of the Montvale, N.J.-based Great Atlantic and Pacific Tea Co., has reportedly left the company.

Martin took over as chief executive officer in 2010. Later that year, the company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, emerging 15 months later. In the interim, executive chairman Greg Mays will lead the company, according to reports.

The company released a statement regarding Martin’s departure thanking him for his time at A&P and wishing him well in future endeavors.

“At the appropriate time in the company’s 2014 planning process, a new chief executive officer will be identified,” the statement said.

A&P operates more than 300 stores under the A&P, Food Basics, The Food Emporium, Pathmark, Superfresh and Walbaum’s banners.
