Mastronardi Produce Ltd.’s new Eco Flavor Bowl is a finalist for the Produce Marketing Association’s 2014 Impact Awards: Excellence in Packaging.
Winners of the Impact Awards will be announced at Newark, Del.-based PMA’s annual Fresh Summit convention in October.
The Sunset-branded Eco Flavor Bowl uses top seal technology to maintain freshness, is made from recycled materials and is 100% recyclable. Kingsville, Ontario-based Mastronardi packs Splendido, Zima and Wild Wonders-branded tomatoes in the Eco Flavor Bowl, which uses at least 20% less plastic that traditional clamshells.
“A lot of research goes into our packaging designs,” Giuseppe Rubino, Mastronardi’s director of packaging, said in a news release. “Right now, consumers are looking for sustainable packaging that meets the needs of families. The Eco Flavor Bowl is the perfect size and format for snacking, serving and entertaining, all while reducing your carbon footprint.”
Introduced in the spring, the Eco Flavor Bowl comes in 1 1/2- and 2-pound versions.
