ANAHEIM, Calif. — Melissa’s World Variety Produce made sure it had a wide audience for its message at the Produce Marketing Association Fresh Summit.
The Los Angeles-based company invited 25 area food bloggers to visit its booth and walk the trade show floor, said Robert Schueller, marketing director. Prior to the trade show, Schueller presented information about the company’s new specialties including Hatch chile powder, finger limes, consumer packs of fresh garbanzo beans, large packs of steamed beets and organic sweet potatoes.
Bloggers were greeted at the company’s booth, which won the PMA’s Best of Show People’s Choice award this year, by Melissa’s co-owner Sharon Hernandez and Melissa’s guest chef Ida Rodriguez to try dishes.
Schueller said this is the 7th time he’s invited local media, and now bloggers, to Fresh Summit.
“I aligned with PMA in a strategy to get more media presence to the show and all about this exciting annual Produce Expo and conference,” he said.
Meg Miller, director of public relations for the Newark, Del.-based Produce Marketing Association said media accounted for 207 attendees at Fresh Summit this year, 50 of which were bloggers. Consumer media was about 1/3 of those registered.
