CHICAGO — The Packer’s Midwest Produce Expo will move to Minneapolis in August 2015.

The move will allow the produce industry to meet in a key Midwestern market, said Publisher Shannon Shuman.

“Minneapolis is a great city with an important and dynamic produce market and a strong retail presence,” Shuman said.

The expo, in its third year, has been held in Chicago so far, and runs from Aug. 11-13 this year.

The Packer is proud to be based in the Midwest, and we always wanted this event to be able to be held in other regional markets,” he said. “The Midwest Expo has proven to be an important regional event to the produce industry, and it’s time to bring it to other Midwestern cities.”

The Packer is based in suburban Kansas City.

Minnesota’s Twin City metro area is the 14th largest in the country with about 3.8 million residents.

Shuman said it’s a growing city that hasn’t often been a produce industry destination, but it’s hard to beat as a summer meeting place.

“We’ve heard from exhibitors and attendees, and they want to be able to do business in a number of Midwestern markets, including vibrant ones like the Twin Cities,” Shuman said.

The metro area is home to retailers Target and Supervalu, and large produce companies including CH Robinson Worldwide Inc.
