KANSAS CITY, Mo. — In preparation for The Packer’s Midwest Produce Conference and Expo Aug. 13-15 in Chicago, a group of fresh produce industry members from Kansas City and surrounding areas met Aug. 2 at Boulevard Brewing Co.
The contingent discussed the challenges unique to its niche of the industry and toured the brewery.
The Packer’s Editor Greg Johnson facilitated the roundtable discussion focusing on how to meet locally grown produce demand, allied supply challenges and what makes doing business in the Midwest different than other regions.
“Produce buyers and sellers have unique challenges in the Midwest,” Johnson said. “Since The Packer is based here, it makes sense for us to bring companies together and help them find some collective solutions.”
Company representatives from Wilcox Fresh, Liberty Fruit, Sysco, C.H. Robinson, Balls Food Stores and Market Fresh Produce, among others, joined those from Lenexa, Kan.-based The Packer and Red Book Credit Services at the event.
