The Mushroom Council is encouraging people to substitute a portion of meat in dishes with mushrooms.
The San Jose, Calif.- based council’s “Swapability” campaign aims to draw on mushrooms’ reputation as a more healthful, less expensive option to meat, according to a council news release.
One “Swapability” application is to make hamburgers with a mix of 50% meat and 50% mushrooms, Bart Minor, the council’s president, said in the release.
Mushrooms are low in calories and loaded with nutrients, and they offer the texture and flavor of meat at a lower price, according to the release.
