Brooks, Ore.-based Curry began using Collins, Ga.-based National Onion Labs in 2010 to certify its Vidalia onions. Now, the company will use the lab for certification for all of its domestic, Peruvian and Chilean sweets, according to a National Onion Labs news release.
Under National Onion Labs’ field-based certification program, each field that supplies Brooks with sweet onions will be audited at harvest. Samples will be collected by a third-party auditor, then tested at National Onion Labs’ facility in Collins.
Brooks also will used National Onion Labs’ new Field Based Pungency Plus Retailer Report, which gives a numeric and letter grade based on heat, flavor strength, negative after taste and sweetness.
