The growers of Bard Valley Natural Delights compiled a list of little known facts about Medjool dates. The Bard Valley, Calif. grower-shippers are spreading the word about everything the Medjools offer, from health benefits to their history, to educate consumers about the often misunderstood fruit.
According to a Natural Delights news release, Medjool dates have been around before 3000 B.C. Archaeologists uncovered evidence that the Sumerian civilization grew the fruits between the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers. Dates came to California and Arizona in the mid-1900s, where some of the date original palms still grow today. Bard Valley’s high temperatures, low humidity and the plentiful water table of the Colorado River create an ideal climate for the dates. The growers that make up the Bard Valley Medjool Date Growers Association produce more than 60% of the Medjool dates grown in the U.S.
Medjool dates contain no fat and no cholesterol and they are sweet with no added sugar. The fruit also adds fiber, Potassium, Copper, Magnesium, Vitamin B6, Niacin, Calcium, Iron and Vitamin K to a daily diet.
