Bard Valley, Calif.-based Natural Delights hosted its first medjool date blogger summit Sept. 18-20.
In Yuma, Ariz., eight U.S. and Canadian food bloggers harvested dates and toured Natural Delights’ Datepac packing facility. They visited a group of trees known as the “big six,” planted in the 1940s, that became the source of about 250,000 medjool date trees in Bard Valley.
The writers and their blogs are Nicole Hamaker, Pinch My Salt; Caroline Edwards, Chocolate & Carrots; Catherine Cardelucci, Rabbit Food for My Bunny Teeth; Alyssa Brantley, Everyday Maven; Theresa Albert, My Friend in Food; Jackie Bruchez, The Seaside Baker, Cynthia David, Cynthia David Blog; and Kim Nguyen, Lovin From the Oven.
“We recognize the importance and influence that culinary bloggers have on their readers who are eager to be introduced to new flavors and experiences in regards to the way they cook and entertain,” Natural Delights global director of marketing Dave Anderson said in a news release.
At a River City Grill luncheon in Yuma, the bloggers sampled menu items including spring rolls with spicy medjool date peanut sauce, medjool date and pesto pasta, and medjool date crème brûlée.
At the summit’s end, Tina’s Cocina executive chef Alex Trujillo served traditional Mexican dishes mixed with medjool dates, including medjool date sweet tamales with coconut sorbet and pomegranate; and a roasted beet and watermelon salad with medjool date dressing.
