A New Orleans Saints player appeared at a New Orleans grocery store to promote Zespri International Ltd.’s Kiwifruit for Kids campaign.
The Saints’ Pierre Thomas spoke about kiwifruit, childhood obesity and his charity, the iCAN Foundation, in an appearance at Rouses Supermarkets on Sept. 25.
Thomas’ charity is one of six competing in Zespri’s second annual Kiwifruit for Kids competition, according to a news release from Mount Maunganui, New Zealand-based Zespri, the exclusive exporter of New Zealand kiwifruit. The winner of the competition will receive $10,000, the runner-up $5,000 and the other charities $1,500.
“We want to teach everyone the importance of being active and eating healthy,” Thomas said, according to the release. “We’ve partnered with Zespri kiwifruit because they’re doing a wonderful thing. I’m on board with them. You learn so much when you visit kiwifruitforkids.com, where you play various games and learn about childhood obesity. Zespri is pushing that forward and I’d like to thank them for allowing me to be part of their program.”
