Stemilt Growers has launched a line of apples aimed at consumers who juice and blend their own produce.

The Fresh Blenders line features 5-pound pouch bags of both sweet and tart apple varieties with recipes and graphics showing consumers how to combine apples with other commodities in blends and juices, according to a news release from Wenatchee, Wash.-based Stemilt.

The standup bags are in the shape of a blender and contain apples that don’t need to meet the same color and shape standards as regular fresh-market apples. That makes them a value item for consumers, Roger Pepperl, Stemilt’s marketing director, said in the release.

“Juicing and blending smoothies at home has taken off in recent years, and continues to grow in popularity among consumers across all age demographics,” Pepperl said. “Apples are the perfect base ingredient to any juice or smoothie creation.”

Sweet varieties packed in Fresh Blenders bags include gala, fuji, red delicious and golden delicious. Tart varieties include braeburn, granny smith and Pink Lady.

Stemilt will highlight Fresh Blenders at the Produce Marketing Association’s Fresh Summit convention Oct. 17-19 in Anaheim, Calif.

The company’s booth will feature Fresh Blenders displays, the produce will be featured in the convention’s new product showcase and Stemilt will serve smoothies made with Fresh Blenders apples and other commodities Oct. 18 at a food truck outside the convention.
