The site adjoins an 80,000-square-foot expansion of Taylor Farms’ fresh-cut vegetable processing capacity announced last year. Taylor Farms is one of the company’s Green Giant brand partners.

Growers Express gains 50% more storage capacity in the move, which also brings the company a bit closer to the bulk of its farming operations. In nearby Salinas, Taylor Farms is operating a cooler previously used by Growers Express.

Gonzales has less truck traffic than Salinas.

Doors at the new Growers Express facility were designed to maintain the cold chain during loading. Field trucks are unloaded in a semi-enclosed area to protect vegetables from sun and wind damage.

Rear finished product delivery doors were designed to receive product for cross-dock and consolidation without interrupting loading flow.

The site enables shipment of a variety of Green Giant Fresh vegetables from one location.

“As freight and freshness has become more important to our customers and consumers, we aligned with Taylor Farms Retail to offer more efficient loading and consolidation across a much larger set of Green Giant Fresh branded products,” Growers Express president Gary Andreasian said in a news release.

The new site also offers improved cut-to-cool times and reduced environmental impacts and costs.

Taylor Farms’ Gonzales site, which is also up and running, was designed to speed its ability to add brussels sprouts, butternut squash and green beans to its previous cut vegetable product offerings. Late last year the company reported retail sales increases of 20% and up for Green Giant Fresh cut vegetables.
