The acquisition of a nut company should help Northampton Peanut Co. service more customers.

Northampton Peanut acquires nut companyThe Severn, N.C.-based Northampton, which does business as Hampton Farms, has added Tanner Nut Co., Tarboro, N.C.

Tanner ships traditional and flavored nuts, including almonds, cashews, peanuts, pecans and walnuts to gourmet and specialty markets. The acquisition should have Hampton Farms and Tanner working to develop new nut products, according to a news release.

Northampton plans to continue Tanner’s Tarboro operations.

“The expertise Chip Penick and his team offer will help Hampton Farms to bring new and exciting products to our current retail partners as well as provide us the opportunity to enter new categories, like specialty tree nuts,” Dallas Barnes, Hampton Farms’ president, said in the release.

The addition of Tanner means Hampton Farms and Jimbo’s Jumbos group can provide snack nut products to more consumer markets which include retail, specialty, ingredient and foodservice, according to the release.
