Trucking operator Northstar Services Ltd., is merging with J&E Transportation Services, a brokerage and warehousing operation.
On Feb. 10, the Pennsauken, N.J.-based Northstar and Gloucester City, N.J.-based J&E announced the merger.
Combining the two companies brings broader and more comprehensive services to the marketplace, Al Iannelli, J&E’s chief operating officer, said in the news release.
Northstar brings to the merger truck terminals at ports in New York, Philadelphia, Baltimore and Miami as well as local, regional and over-the-road trucking service and the hauling of domestic and international intermodal containers, according to a news release.
J&E’s strengths include a logistics service focusing on domestic warehousing and distribution, specialized handling services including blanket wrap, palletizing, pick and pack and cross-docking as well as intermodal and rail service in its coverage of 48 U.S. states, Canada and Mexico, according to the release.
“The merger of these two companies enables us to offer fully-integrated services to all steamship lines, freight forwarders, customs brokers, 3PLs, and beneficial cargo owners,” Iannelli said in the release. “The value-add is additional capacity.”
In addition to the expanded capacity, the merger should allow both companies to pass cost savings to their customers and increase service reliability, Martin Marano, Northstar’s chairman, said in the release.
