The son of an onion farmer is now onion crop sales manager for North America for Nunhems.
The Bayer CropScience firm announced hiring Kent Whittig for the post on Sept. 16.
Whittig will oversee the marketing and sales strategies for Nunhem’s onion seed business, according to a company news release. Most recently Whittig worked for nine years for the J.R. Simplot Co., where he developed and managed that company’s marketing plans for fertilizer products in the U.S., Canada and Mexico.
Onions are second nature to Whittig, whose family onion farm in southeastern Idaho gave him insight into the vegetable when he was growing up. Whittig continued his interest in agriculture as he matured, earning a bachelor’s degree in agricultural education from the university of Idaho.
After college, Whittig worked as a production technician for Sunseeds, which was acquired by Nunhems in 1997.
