OAG Global's Peruvian table grape imports to start in November

Courtesy OAG GlobalOAG Global of Fresno, Calif., plans to begin importing table grapes from this region in Peru in November. A new produce marketing company in Fresno, Calif., is bringing Peruvian table grapes to the U.S. in its first import season.

OAG Global, founded earlier this year by Omar Abu Ghazaleh, announced Oct. 10 its plans to ship table grapes from Peru to the U.S. beginning in November and continuing through March 2012. OAG is billing its Peruvian grapes as the solution to the gap between the end of the California season and the beginning of the Chilean harvest.

The company announcement said OAG Global’s grower base represents 30% of the overall Peruvian table grape production and more than 50% of the seedless variety production. OAG expects to import 20% of all table grapes coming to North America for the 2011-12 season.

The OAG growers in the northern Piura and southern Ica regions of Peru will provide the established Terra Sur and Red Dragon labels, among others. Varieties available beginning in November include green seedless, red seedless, black seedless and red seeded.

Packaging options include fixed weight bi-, tri- and single-color clamshells, paper wraps, slider bags and private labels. All of the OAG global growers in Peru adhere to international GAP standards and are COOL and GS1 case-level compliant, according to the company news release.
