Ocean Mist Farms has begun shipping shrink-wrapped bok choy and napa cabbage in advance of Chinese New Year on Feb. 10.
The new items will be available year-round. The shrink wrap is aimed at extending shelf life, according to a news release.
The vegetables are associated with Asian cooking.
Bok choy is common in soups, stir-fries, appetizers and entrees.
Napa cabbage resembles regular green cabbage, but is longer and oval-shaped. It has slightly more protein and fewer calories than regular cabbage, according to the Castroville, Calif.-based grower-shipper. Its taste is comparable to a mild celery or bok choy.
