Ocean Mist Farms has named Afreen Malik director of technical services and Arlin Valenzuela quality assurance manager in a pair of promotions by the Castroville, Calif.-based grower-shipper.
Malik, who’s been with Ocean Mist since 2004, was previously manager of food safety. She directed the company’s food safety program and upgraded its product traceability and recall protocols, according to a news release. She was also responsible for developing Ocean Mist’s sustainability initiatives program.
Malik’s industry service includes participation in the Produce Marketing Association’s produce safety, science and technology committee; the Hartnell College food safety advisory committee; and the Monterey County sustainability working group.
“Afreen has the knowledge and understanding of these important functions and is in a unique position to oversee the alignment of our quality systems across the company,” chief operating officer Joe Pezzini said in the release.
Valenzuela succeeds Cisco Martinez, who joined Coastline Produce in July as quality assurance manager.
She will manage Ocean Mist Farms’ quality assurance program and work closely with various departments. She was previously a quality assurance in-house trainer.
Valenzuela had an important role in digitizing Ocean Mist’s quality assurance program, which will debut at the Produce Marketing Association Fresh Summit in October in New Orleans.
