West Coast Tomato Growers plans to start production of vine ripened tomatoes under its Oceanside Pole label in late June, with romas to follow in August.
The season will run to November, Dick Keim, marketing coordinator for Oceanside, Calif.-based West Coast Tomato Growers, said in a news release. The tomatoes will be marketed, for the third year, by The Oppenheimer Group.
Roma volume is expected to double last year’s numbers, and grower Harry Singh Jr. has planted new acreage. The change is demand driven, Keim said.
“The heaviest production will last July through October then naturally taper off,” Keim said.
“We’ve refined our color staging practices to assure the tomatoes we ship will match our customers’ arrival specifications every time,” Aaron Quon, director of Oppenheimer’s greenhouse and vegetable categories, said in the release.
Oppenheimer also markets conventional greenhouse tomatoes from the U.S., Canada and Mexico and organic greenhouse tomatoes grown in Canada and Mexico.
