The Prince Edward Island Potato Board is enlisting the help of an Olympic gold medalist promote the nutritional benefits of the province’s potatoes.
The campaign’s in-store and online marketing efforts include branded bag packaging, tear-away recipe cards, nutritional information and cooking video vignettes with Moyse and a local chef. Moyse is also scheduled to appear at promotional events, according to a news release.
“The combined efforts of our new marketing campaign are designed to entice and educate the consumer on the benefits of the potato,” Greg Donald, potato board general manager, said in the release. “As we move into the spring and summer seasons, there is no better time than the present to remind Canadians of Prince Edward Island potatoes.”
Using Moyse as an ambassador for the potato board’s brand is an obvious choice because she’s well-known on the islander and her achievements demonstrate how a healthy and balanced diet including potatoes can contribute to physical strength and endurance, Donald said in the release.
Moyse plans to attend the Canadian Produce Marketing Association convention April 11-13 in Calgary, Alberta.
Moyse also competed in rugby and cycling.
