Mastronardi’s Y.E.L.O. brand cocktail tomatoes also earned a nod from the international judges.As a three-time winner of the Superior Taste Award from the International Taste and Quality Institute in Belgium this year, Mastronardi Produce earned the attention of the judges with two tomato products and a pepper variety.
The Kingsville, Ontario, greenhouse grower-shipper won top honors for two of its Sunset brand products, One Sweet tomatoes and Sweet Twister peppers. Mastronardi’s Y.E.L.O. brand cocktail tomatoes also earned the top nod from the international judges, according to a news release from the company.
Products are judged on appearance, smell, texture and taste, the components considered by the International Taste and Quality Institute to be necessary for top-ranked foods, according to the release. The judge panel includes members from 13 different nationalities from culinary institutions throughout Europe.
The recognition includes several hundred food and drink brands from more than 80 countries. In 2010, Mastronardi’s Sunset brand Kumato tomato was the first fresh produce item recognized with the honor, according to the release. Since then, other Mastronardi Produce products have won, including Zima and Angel Sweet snacking tomatoes.
“It’s an incredible achievement to have our products recognized worldwide by chefs, sommeliers and consumers alike,” Mastronardi CEO Paul Mastronardi said in the release. “Our brand is built on flavor and quality and this award is certainly a testament to our mission.”
