Supplies of organic pears imported from Argentina by Awe Sum Organics will be down this year, but quality is expected to be good.
Volumes will be up to 30% lower than last season because of light fruit sets, according to a news release from Santa Cruz, Calif.-based Awe Sum.
Bartletts and red bartletts were arriving in early March and are expected to ship into mid-April. They will be replaced by abate fetels, anjous, packhams, boscs and other varieties.
Organic Argentinean pears are a bridge to the California summer deal, David Posner, Awe Sum’s president and chief executive officer, said in the release.
Awe Sum’s grower partner in Argentina is PAI, one of the first organic pear growers in the country’s Rio Negro Valley.
