Organics Unlimited, San Diego, has enjoyed a significant increase in interest of its GROW label bananas since GROW Month began.
GROW Month is hosted by Organics Unlimited throughout September and tries to increase sales and awareness of the GROW Program, according to a news release.
The GROW Program, which stands for Giving Resources and Opportunities to Workers, tries to give financial support to programs that help the lifestyles of farm workers and their families, according to growbananas.org.
Retailers and consumers are helping spread awareness of the program. There are new in-store, point-of-purchase materials available.
“It is wonderful to see all of this support from our customers,” Mayra Velazquez de Leon, president and co-founder of Organics Unlimited and GROW said in the release. “The GROW Program means a lot to the communities we are helping, and we are very thankful to all of our customers who share this enthusiasm.”
Each purchase donates a portion of the revenue to the GROW Fund and helps workers, families and communities in the banana growing regions of Mexico and Ecuador, according to the release.
