Organics UnlimitedOrganics Unlimited, San Diego, is sending a volunteer to Colima, Mexico, to give back to a grower community in March.

Karla “Sam” Gonzalez is the winner of the all-expenses paid trip to Colima. The giveaway was sponsored by Organics Unlimited and San Diego retailer Jimbo’s as a part of GROW (Giving Resources and Opportunities to Workers) Month in September.

Gonzalez is a customer service manager for a health and safety office in San Diego County as well as a CPR and first aid instructor. She volunteers for a local organization with her daughter’s sixth-grade class called Classroom Parent.

Gonzalez is taking her brother to Colima where they will contribute to a Literacy and Environment volunteer week. Volunteers participate in regional literacy projects with disadvantaged youth while exploring Mexico’s ecological landscape with local experts in birding, botany and volcanology, according to a news release.

“I’m most excited to see how my life may have been different had my mom stayed in Mexico,” Gonzales said in a news release. “And I’m hoping to learn new things about my culture and help others in any way I can.”
