An Orlando, Fla., area school district added a new twist to its participation in the Chefs Move to Schools initiative.
On May 28, Orange County Public Schools’ Camelot Elementary School sponsored a picnic lunch on featuring new menu items added through the program.
Universal Studio’s food truck served the new menu items, including “Funfetti Chicken” with mango, edamame and guacamole; “Kung Fu Orange Noodle Bowl,” with orange sauce and edamame beans; avocado burger sliders, with avocado cream sauce and red onions.
The dishes are part of a three-month partnership with volunteer chefs from Universal City Walk, Walt Disney Parks & Resorts, Nestle and a caterer.
In the program, chefs worked with five school cafeteria food managers to create nutritious menu items. Student taste testers from each school helped create menu items, according to the release.
The Chefs Move to Schools program is part of the Let’s Move campaign against childhood obesity.
