PMA Foundation debuts women’s leadership event

Developing the leadership potential of women in the global produce industry is the chief aim of the Produce Marketing Association’s Foundation for Industry Talent Women’s Fresh Perspective Conference.

The event, April 21-23 in Scottsdale, Ariz., is offered in conjunction with Simmons School of Management, according to a news release from the Newark, Del.-based PMA. The event is the only industry-specific development program for women, according to the release.

“Today, the produce industry recognizes women should and do have a seat at the table in management and in leadership positions; however, there’s still a lot more room to grow,” Tonya Antle, Tanimura & Antle principal and conference steering committee chairwoman said in the release.

The conference provides leadership training and a needs assessment of leadership development, according to the release. Consultant Julie Krivanek, president of Denver-based Krivanek Consulting, helped construct the program.

“Ninety-two percent of all food purchase decisions are made by a woman,” Krivanek in the release. “That means decisions made to increase consumption, connect to the consumer, and attract people to our stellar products are being made without the voice of those most influential.”
