Mike HornickRobinson Fresh, the largest team with 53 runners, took the spirit award at the PMA Foundation for Industry Talent 5-kilometer race July 26 in Monterey, Calif.MONTEREY, Calif. — The starting line at the Produce Marketing Association Foundation for Industry Talent 5-kilometer race was more crowded than at past shows, but the top runners quickly broke out of the pack.
In a record field of 389 at the PMA Foodservice Conference and Expo in Monterey July 26, Philip Higgins of Markon Cooperative was the fastest man, crossing the finish line at 18:51. Stephanie Cancellieri of Veg-Fresh Farms was the top woman at 20:10.
Robinson Fresh, the largest team with 53 runners, took the team spirit award. Tanimura & Antle got the nod for best team attire.
The race raises funds for the trade group’s efforts to find and retain industry talent. Among the sponsors were Castellini Group of Cos., Grimmway Farms, Sunkist Growers and Taylor Farms.
The PMA Foundation hosted the Joe Nucci Memorial Golf Tournament July 25 in Seaside.
Proceeds support the foundation’s Career Pathways program.
The top foursome was Anthony D’Amico, Kevin Delaney, Anthony Valdez and Rick Jordan. Brian Jenny, Dwight Ferguson, Jason Fischer and Dave Adams took second. Third place went to Mitch DiMarco, Louis Hymel, Bill Munger and Erik Winge.
