Previously, booth assignments were made on a points system based on one point for each year participating in Fresh Summit, one point for each booth unit used (10 feet by 10 feet for each unit) and points for consecutive participation in the show.

I think this new system as well as the previous system of allocating space at the exhibition creates 'dead' areas because smaller and/or unknown companies are getting clustered and larger at the ends. Well known larger companies are competing right next to each other. VIP buyers are in a predicament as well as exhibitors, being observed so closely by the competition. This would have been a great opportunity to create a more even distribution of the 'big' booths. I think it is a good decision to max / cap the size of these 'mega booth' which take away from the individual experience / exchange between visitor and exhibitor. The noise level these mega exhibits create at times is disturbing to say the least. All of the above are possibly reasons for the tremendous recent success of local shows like the NY produce show or South East show.
