Events in March and May highlight the Produce Marketing Association’s year-round focus on technology.
PMA is expanding its programming to include a greater focus on emerging technology in response to the challenges of increasing consumer confidence at the same time growing food needs are constrained by limited resources, according to a news release from the Newark, Del.-based group.
“The bottom line — these new resources are being put to work to help members operate their businesses more effectively, helping drive profitability and global demand for fresh fruits and vegetables,” Joe Pezzini, chief operating officer of Ocean Mist Farms and chairman of the PMA Produce Safety, Science and Technology Committee, said in the release.
The two events are:
- Tech Talks: Set for March 26 near Tampa, Fla., a networking event with presentations on existing and emerging technologies.
- Tech Knowledge: Scheduled for May 21-22 in San Diego, Calif., the event will allow participants to learn about technologies that are on the two- to five-year horizon and capable of changing the industry, according to the release.
“These new services have been developed in response to feedback we’ve received directly from our members,” Bob Whitaker, PMA chief science and technology officer, said in the release.
