Field Fresh Farms
Field Fresh Farms has added 15,000 square feet to its processing plant in Watsonville, Calif.
Green leaf and romaine fillets are prepared at the site, said Robert Rossi, co-owner.
The added space came online in April.
The Giumarra Cos., Los Angeles, is pushing its meyer lemon line from New Zealand stronger in foodservice.
Megan Schulz, West Coast business development manager, said several restaurants are putting meyer lemons on menus by name. She said the season began July 1 and should run into September.
Giumarra also added an Indiana watermelon deal this summer, primarily for customers in the East.
Green Giant Fresh
Green Giant Fresh grapes started shipping in 22-pound foodservice boxes July 1 from Visalia, Calif.-based Green Giant Citrus, says John Rast, owner of Fruit Exchange LLC, a division of Rast Produce Co.
Fruit Exchange is the exclusive distributor for Green Giant Fresh grapes and citrus. For retail, poly bags of grapes of all colors started shipping around May 1.
Idaho-Eastern Oregon Onion Committee
The Idaho-Eastern Oregon Onion Committee, Parma, Idaho, has a new partnership this summer with chef Nick Duncan of Brick 29 in Nampa, Idaho.
Marketing director Sherise Jones said the committee is promoting several of Duncan’s recipes that use onions, including stuffed onion rings.
She said Duncan was named a top 10 chef in the Northwest by Food and Wine magazine and is also a culinary instructor at the College of Western Idaho.
Maglio & Co.
Maglio & Co., Glendale, Wis., opened a repacking facility earlier this year in Oakdale, Minn., which is just east of the Twin Cities.
Regional sales manager Joe Johnson said the plant is about 60% to 70% of capacity and serves customers in the upper Midwest.
Mann Packing Co. introduced its Better Burger Leaf in a wash-and-trim foodservice pack of whole-leaf singles. Limited shipments start in September. It combines qualities of iceberg and green leaf.
Mann Packing has exclusive rights to the seed variety, developed with Dutch company Nunhems. Mann Packing also added Emerald, a new petite whole leaf blend, to its Arcadian Harvest line.
Misionero Vegetables, Gonzales, Calif., began shipping Frescada, an iceberg-romaine cross, for foodservice, retail and club stores in late June, says Greg Gattis, sales commodity manager. Foodservice comes in a 5-pound bag. The club store pack is eight 2-pound bags.

The 10-pound box is broken into four 40-ounce trays of sliced, white mushrooms, which offer better food safety, portion control and cleanliness for foodservice customers, Hindman says. Monterey Mushrooms also displayed its new portabella box, which features the mushrooms in 15- and 22-count trays in a dimple package.
