PMA opens nominations for Fresh Summit awards

Produce Marketing AssociationNominations for the Produce Marketing Association’s Impact Award and the Robert L. Carey Leadership Award are open until Aug. 16.

The Newark, Del.-based PMA said in a news release that winners will be announced at PMA’s Fresh Summit International Convention & Exposition, Oct. 18-20 in New Orleans, La. Submission forms and instructions can be found on PMA’s website, according to the release.

The Impact Award recognizes excellence in packaging and is judged by a panel of experts based on the criteria of marketing, food safety, supply chain efficiency/functionality, sustainability and consumer convenience, according to the release.

PMA’s Robert L. Carey Leadership Award honors an individual with great leadership qualities and a superior commitment to PMA and the produce industry, according to the release. The Carey award will be chosen by a panel of five judges, including last year’s Carey award recipient Mike O’Brien, vice president of produce and floral at St. Louis-based Schnuck Markets Inc. Other judges on the panel are:  Janet Erickson, senior director of supply chain operations of Brinker International; Robert DiPiazza, of DiPiazza Consulting Services; Ted Campbell, executive director of Florida Strawberry Growers Association; William Schuler, president and chief executive officer of Wilder, Ky.-based Castellini Co.; and PMA president Bryan Silbermann.
