Packaging firm Sev-Rend adds sales staff, distribution centers

Sev-Rend, a Collinsville, Ill.-based packaging firm, has added two distribution centers, expanded its sales staff and installed a new printing press, said Harrison Chien, vice president, sales and marketing.

The new distribution centers are in Bakersfield, Calif., and Vidalia, Ga.

To augment an existing sales staffer in the home office, Sev-Rend has added positions in Atlanta, Philadelphia, Dallas and Los Angeles, he said.

The Philadelphia representative also will serve eastern Canada, and the Los Angeles position also will call on western Canada.

In addition, the position in Atlanta will serve Mexico and Latin America.

Sev-Rend recently invested in an eight-color central impression press that will allow it to print up to 52-inch-wide film for wraps on mesh bags as well as flexible packaging, Chien said.

That style press prints with very tight registration, resulting in improved graphic detail, he said.

Sev-Rend also has moved the production of its Sof Net knitted, tubular netted bags from Europe to the U.S., allowing for shorter lead times and custom colors, Chien said.

The netting comes in 10 standard colors, including black and white.

Unlike some extruded bags, he said, the soft tubular netting is gentler on produce yet still is strong enough to hold hefty commodities.

“Most of the packers we talk to like it because it doesn’t bruise the produce held in the netting,” he said.
