Frieda’s Inc. is asking merchandisers to create purple produce displays using Pantone’s choice for color of the year for 2014, radiant orchid.
Pantone, a provider of color standards for designers, described the color as combining fuchsia, purple and pink tones. The choice was based on a poll of designers working in fashion, graphics, industrial design, manufacturing, retail and entertainment.
Los Alamitos, Calif.-based Frieda’s Inc., which named 2013 the Year of Purple and continues to market under the Power of Purple theme, offers specialties including purple cauliflower, Stokes Purple sweet potato, purple kale, purple kohlrabi, baby purple potato, Chinese eggplant, passion fruit and mangosteen.
“It is fascinating that Pantone picked radiant orchid for 2014,” Karen Caplan, Frieda’s president and chief executive officer, said in a news release. “More than ever, shoppers will be looking to add more purple to their wardrobes and onto their plates.”
Radiant orchid joins a list of Pantone’s “It” colors that includes the 2013 choice, emerald.
