Parassio and Prueitt named to new roles at PMA

Produce Marketing AssociationTony Parassio has been promoted to chief operating officer of the Newark, Del.-based Produce Marketing Association, and Margi Prueitt has been named PMA senior vice president in addition to keeping her role as executive director of the PMA Foundation.

PMA president and chief executive officer Bryan Silbermann announced the moves at PMA’s board of directors meeting on June 3-4 in Denver. Both Parassio and Prueitt were already members of the association’s senior management.

“I’m pleased to share that Tony Parassio has been promoted to chief operating officer,” Silbermann said in a news release. “Tony’s been instrumental in laying our strategic roadmap for creating and delivering value to PMA’s members around the globe, including our floral members,” he said in the release.

Silbermann also praised Parassio’s performance in developing and implementing the association’s governance model, helping to direct the association’s more than 400 volunteer leaders and providing input on an updated strategic plan for PMA.

Joining PMA in 2008 vice president of business development, Parassio in 2010 was appointed senior vice president of member value. He now also serves on the Produce for Better Health Foundation’s board of directors.

Silbermann said Prueitt’s elevation to the role of PMA senior vice president is recognition of the important of her ongoing role as executive director of the PMA Foundation.

“Since she joined us in 2010, Margi has been the catalyst for an ongoing spring-boarding of greater value and strategic vision for the PMA Foundation,” Silbermann said in the release. He said Prueitt has led the way in the planning and execution of key association programs, including the Emerging Leaders Program, Women’s Fresh Perspectives Conference, Career Pathways Programs and the upcoming High Performance Management Conference scheduled for December.

Silbermann said Prueitt also has expanded the PMA Foundation’s role with regional groups across the U.S. and Canada, in addition expanding global involvement in the association.

Along with Silbermann, Parassio and Prueitt, other current members of PMA’s senior leadership include Bob Whitaker, chief science and technology officer; Duane Eaton, senior vice president of administration; and Yvonne Bull, chief financial officer.
