Pear Bureau Northwest names retail contest winners

Pear Bureau Northwest has announced winners of its first “Pear Up with USA Pears” retail display contest.

Winners were named in several categories based on store size, according to a news release from the Milwaukie, Ore.-based bureau.

In the 1-5 cash registers category, Shiela Burt of Mike’s Food Center in St. Charles, Minn., won first place.

In the 6-9 registers category, Michael Callahan of McKinleyville, Calif.-based Ray’s Food Place and Eric Dodge of Hy-Vee in Waterloo, Iowa, tied for first place.

In the 10-or-more registers category, Dan Atkinson of Hy-Vee in Iowa City, Iowa, won first place.

First-place winners won $1,000, second-place winners $750, third-place winners $500 and honorable mentions $150.

To participate, retailers had to include at least green anjous, red anjous and boscs in their displays. Displays had to run for at least a week in February or March.
