Pear Bureau Northwest is sponsoring a U.S. athlete competing in the Sochi Winter Olympics.

The Milwaukie, Ore.-based bureau is continuing its long-standing sponsorship of cross-country skier Torin Koos for this year’s games, according to a bureau news release.

Koos, a 33-year-old Pacific Northwest native, is competing in his fourth consecutive Winter Olympics. He will post photo updates on his progress at Sochi on the bureau’s USA Pears Instagram account.

On one recent post, he said the Olympic Village dining hall in Sochi is stocked with USA Pears-branded pears.

Koos said his pre-race meal includes oatmeal topped with sliced green anjou pears.

USA Pears was the official sponsor of Koos for the 2010 Winter Olympics. As part of that sponsorship, USA Pears released a limited-edition Torin Koos trading pin.

The bureau also sponsored Koos during the 2006 Winter Olympics.
