Brush up your pear display skills. The Pear Bureau Northwest has a new display contest for retailers of all sizes coming in February and March.

The Milwaukie, Ore.-based organization’s new “Pear up with USA Pears Display Contest” gives retailers in the U.S. and Canada a chance to win cash prizes including $1,000 for first place, $750 for second place, $500 for third place and $150 for honorable mention in three categories:

  • 1-5 cash registers;
  • 6-9 cash registers;
  • 10 or more cash registers.

Eligible entrants also receive a $20 Amazon.com gift card for participation.

“With pears having a high rate of impulse purchase, good displays are key to the success of the pear category for retailers,” said Kevin Moffitt, president and chief executive officer of Pear Bureau Northwest, in a news release. “This contest is designed to reward and recognize retailers of all sizes for their creative pear displays that are so effective in boosting pear sales.”

To qualify for the contest, displays must be maintained for one week during February or March. Entry forms with at least one photo of the display must be submitted by April 15, and will be judged on a 100 point scale for appearance, creativity and educational impact. The bureau plans to offer 10 bonus points for entries including jumbo size pears. Displays must include Green Anjou, Red Anjou and Bosc pears at a minimum, with other varieties encouraged.
