The U.S. Department of Agriculture has taken action against Pellegrino’s Fruit & Produce Inc. for failing to pay for produce, a violation of the Perishable Agricultural Commodities Act.
Pellegrino’s, Pompano Beach, Fla., was cited for failing to pay five sellers a total of $261,197 for 42 lots of produce.
The USDA and Pellegrino’s entered into a consent decision in which Pellegrino’s agreed to not operate in the produce industry until Nov. 7, 2014.
The responsibly connected individual in this case is Joseph Pellegrino.

Paul Rangel and Randall Lintz are responsibly connected to Smokey Mountain Produce, which was sanctioned for PACA violations last year, according to the USDA.
Smokey Mountain Produce, Morristown, Tenn., was sanctioned in October 2011 for failing to pay a $91,337 reparation award. Rangel and Lintz challenged their responsibly connected status and recently entered a consent decision in which they neither admit or deny their status.
Neither individual can work in the industry for two years.
