In its support for breast cancer research, Peri & Sons Farms Inc., is introducing new pink bags marking Breast Cancer Awareness Month (October).

Peri redesigns onion packs for cancer campaignThe Yerington, Nev.-based grower-shipper of onions redesigned its packaging for the promotion which runs through October and into November as long as bag supplies remain available, according to a news release.

The pink bags incorporate quick-response codes and include statements such as “Scan the code below or go online for cancer-fighting recipes and good tips for eating your way to wellness.”

The packaging also tells consumer they can reduce their risk of cancer by improving their diets.

The company intentionally kept the package style open for easy retailer customization, according to the release.

The bright, eye-catching bags can be packed with medium-sized white, yellow, red or sweet onions in 2-, 3-, 4- or 5-pound units.

Peri redesigns onion packs for cancer campaignAlso new this year, Peri partnered with chef Rebecca Katz, an author and educator who creates recipes for people battling the side effects of cancer treatment and for those looking to extend their lives through healthful eating.

Katz’s books are informative and help inspire cancer patients, according to the release.

“In our own little way, we wanted to heighten awareness for the wonderful research being done to find a cure for breast cancer, but we also wanted our message to be one of prevention through healthy eating habits,” Peri said in the release.

Consumers can decide which of the four featured charities will receive this year’s donation by voting in Peri’s “Choose Our Charity” program.

Voters will receive “pink-supporter” magnets for participating.

Although Peri has supported breast cancer research through a national foundation for the past several years, this year marks the second time Peri is offering the promotional packages.
