Harris Teeter Supermarkets Inc., Meijer and Price Chopper are partnering with Pink Ribbon Produce on its ninth-annual Breast Cancer Awareness Month promotion in October.

The Pink Ribbon Produce logo appears on posters and point-of-sale items near products. Since 2006, it has raised more than $409,000 for the fight against breast cancer together with more than 500 Harris Teeter, Meijer and Price Chopper stores.

The retailers will also be inviting customers to fill half their plate with fruits and vegetables in order to lower their risk of cancer. Dubbed “Take the Fresh Plate Challenge,” a guide is available online. The prevention campaign will also use social media.

An Instagram photo contest and other activities will use hashtags #donateNBCF, #freshplate and #pinkribbon. Contest winners will receive a retailer gift card, and a donation to the foundation will be made in their name.

“We are proud to support the National Breast Cancer Foundation as we enter our ninth year with Pink Ribbon Produce, and our second year encouraging the Fresh Plate Challenge,” Debbie Augustine, chief executive officer of AugustineIdeas, said in a news release. AugustineIdeas, Roseville, Calif., manages the fundraising program for the retailers.
